Tooth Whitening

If you're not happy with the color of your teeth, tooth whitening or bleaching may be the non-invasive dental treatment you desire. The most popular choice is the use of custom trays that can be used at home to whiten your teeth. Another option is to have whitening done in the office, which offers less than an hour of instant results. It is important to note that whitening only works on natural tooth enamel. Hence, an evaluation is necessary to determine if existing fillings or crowns will need to be replaced to obtain a whiter smile. The replacements will match your newly bleached teeth to ensure natural aesthetics.

Please note that the treatment may not be permanent, like smoking and drinking coffee, tea, and wine will dull the white of the teeth, which will make a touch-up necessary. Tooth whitening is ideal for dealing with:

  • Yellow, brown stained, or dull teeth

At-home tooth whitening will require two appointments: the first to make impressions, or molds, of your teeth for clear plastic custom trays. The second appointment is necessary to make sure the trays fit and educate you on the proper use of your kit. The trays are worn with a special whitening solution either twice a day for thirty minutes or overnight for a couple of weeks, depending on the level of stain and desired level of whitening. Tooth sensitivity is normal during the treatment but will subside after bleaching is concluded.
